Tonfa Before becoming a weapon tonfa was used as a working tool, much
like other kobudo weapons. The tonfa was used as an arm of a
millstone for preparing grain and could be easily removed. The main
part of the tonfa, is the shaft that consists of a large hardwood
body, about 50 to 60 centimeters in length, and a smaller
cylindrical grip. The grip is secured at a 90 degree angle to the
shaft and about 15 centimeters from one end. The wooden handles were
held, while the long shaft was swung and flailed at the attacker,
then brought along the forearm to block attacks.
The PR-24 police baton is a direct descendant of the tonfa. It is
standard issue in police departments around the United States. It
has replaced the venerable nightstick because of its effectiveness
and versatility in stopping opponents Click here to see our Tonfa selection
